AI Training Project - Final Reflection - EDU777

As I went deeper into the planning stages of this AI training project, I am more and more filled with a sense of excitement and anticipation. It's an awesome opportunity to step back into the role of a classroom teacher and design engaging, innovative lessons using tech that many teachers don’t feel super comfortable with yet. I enjoy being an early adopter and learning the intricacies of new ed tech. As an instructional coach, I often support teachers in their instructional design, but rarely get the chance to directly implement the lessons myself. This project allows me to put my instructional design skills to the test and experience firsthand the impact of technology-enhanced learning.

One of the most positive aspects of this journey has been the opportunity to learn more about the world of AI. By exploring the latest software and trends, I have gained a deeper understanding of the potential benefits and challenges associated with AI. This knowledge has reinforced the idea even more how important it can be to implement a curriculum that is both engaging and relevant to students' lives. It’s also been great to get to work with a colleague on an extended project.  Oftentimes, my work is a quick meeting or singular objective.  Getting to build a relationship and dive deep into a project has been rewarding!

One challenge lies in striking the right balance between providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills, while also avoiding overwhelming them with technical details. We are trying to design learning that focuses on the core concepts of AI, such as how it learns and works, and provide practical examples of how AI is used in everyday life. By keeping the content relevant and engaging, we can motivate students to learn more on their own. Another challenge that I’m anticipating is ensuring that the students take away important learning from their AI training and don’t use it as an opportunity to use AI the in the wrong ways.  Some of them might, but this could lead to natural consequences of damaging their learning or their grades.  I hope that the lessons we design instill in them the importance of using AI in the right way - as a support tool.

As a teacher and instructional designer, I am excited to play a role in shaping the future of education. By integrating technology into the classroom, we can create more engaging and personalized learning experiences. This AI training project is just one example of how technology can be used to enhance student learning and prepare them for success in the 21st century.
